Base Day 2

During both my runs today, I was able to express my emotions and feelings toward the recent developments at my job. It’s nothing I plan to get into here and has nothing to do with the owners or my bosses treating us wrongly. I am in no way upset with the company management, I am upset with a few of my fellow coworkers and the local college student “activist” population. I do not appreciate my family being dragged through the mud for some political stunt.

End rant.

Today my runs flowed easily. One thing I need to be conscious of doing a lot of easy running is my left glute. It gets sore faster because I believe my imbalances cause it to work harder. When I do workouts often, I correct those in my form subconsciously. A lot of easy miles make me lazy in that respect. I threw in some strides and hurdle drills post first run today because I want Tuesdays to remain “workout focused” for when I get back to it. Doing something small like that will aid in priming my mind and body to work hard on Tuesdays.

AM: 68 minutes + strides + hurdle drills

Strength: 5x5 lifts (deadlift, squat, benchpress, pull-up, lunge, squat jump, med-ball slam)

PM: 60 minutes

Extra: 60 minute nap and foam rolling

Food: BREAKFAST (scone w/ PB and watermelon) LUNCH (spaghetti squash with salmon and cheese/chips) DINNER (savory oatmeal with lentils and eggs/pickled celery) SNACK (yogurt/protein powder/granola/PB)

My mileage has been around 8:00-8:30 pace. I feel comfortable here right now and not at all like I’m too slow or fast. It feels like the right pace for me and luckily, the right pace for my companions. I’ve heard it said that your marathon pace plus 2 minutes is around your easy pace. I’d love to run 6s for a marathon. One day I’ll get there.

Mentally, I am happy to be enjoying running everyday. I am happy to have the time to relax after I run and nap before the second run. My legs and heart feel pretty good right now, but I will be conscious of soreness tomorrow after today’s strength training.
