Base Day 6: Ice, Ice, Baby

The rains of yesterday froze over the roads and trail around town, so it was some slow going. I was going to do some 30 second surges at the end, but the road conditions made me reconsider my choices. It was icy and not in the fun skating way. My running partner got very lucky 5 times. How is someone lucky 5 times on a single run??? Instead of the strides I planned to do hill sprints at the end, but we ended up not having time. I needed to jet to work.

In the afternoon, I convinced my friend Amelia to come to the gym and try out the Arc Trainer. I wanted her opinion on whether it mimics hiking or uphill running. She never uses a gym, and I think she was bored in there, however she said it does feel like it worked her muscles in a good way. She said if I brought trail running videos she would continue to do it with me this winter. I call that a WIN!

AM: 81 minutes easy

Strength: 5x5 lifts

PM: 30 minutes Arc Trainer, 30 minutes bike

Extras: Foam rolling, 60 minute nap

Food: BREAKFAST (oatmeal/pb/granola/raisins/grapes) LUNCH (salmon, chips, carrots) DINNER (chocolate/PB/oatmeal/almonds/granola/blueberries) SNACK (yogurt/protein powder/coconut/PB)

My body feels good within the mileage. Keeping everything easy and resting when I am not running is helpful. I don’t think this mileage would be sustainable while working full time at my job. Nor is it necessary for performance, I’m just having fun.
