Day 7: Longest since April, to the FUTURE

Yesterday I ran the longest I’d run since Amelia and I did the Quarantine Backyard Ultra running 40 miles over 10 hours. I completed 18.28 miles in about 2.5 hours at 6AM in 20 degree weather.

Why did I do this? Hmm, well I felt fine, the pace was easy and I kind of wanted to see if I could. There are few moments in my training now-a-days where anything goes. I usually consult with someone even if I have my own goals. This past week I wanted to run some mileage, run twice a day and have a good time.

I ended the week with 93.7 miles, completed all my core and strength workouts and got to know Mike really well. I think I’ll proceed with the twice daily aerobic work, but scale it back a bit working on the arc trainer and bike in my second session. My coach has given me 30-40 minute daily runs, so after a week of fun I should probably get back on the band wagon.

As for what the spring looks like, I’m not sure what I’ll do race-wise. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the mileage, so I’ll mention that in my email to Jon today, but I also want to keep working on speed. Instead of a marathon in the late spring/early summer, maybe I’ll take the half option. I’d like to start chipping away at my half PR of 1:19. I know I’ve got more in me than that.
